A Day Late, And $39 Dollars Short!

One day late with last months credit card payment and they charge me $39.00! Plus a $10 finance charge to boot. $49 is too costly a mistake for being a day late when I've been a long standing customer. A quick phone call and I was able to get the late fee waived, but not the finance charge. Oh well, I guess that's the price to pay for convenience, easier budgeting and various rewards...

  • Which bank issued your card? After years of on-time payments, my payments to US Bank suddenly started being credited late. They waived fees and finance charges; I switched to online payments.

  • I had a similar story lately. I heard something on Public Radio about legislation that would make banks harder to asses these charges...

  • My CC company was recently taken over by CHASE. I've been a day or two late w/ the previous owner w/ no fees. I'm sorry to say I too have online bill pay, and a scheduled check list of bills to pay every month. I consider myself fairly organized w/ it comes to bill paying and finance in general. It was a thoughtless mistake on my part...

  • Give them a call and plead your case - threaten to cancel with them. They need you as a customer!!

  • That's messed up! That's a lot for 1 day!
I have read that you can more your creditcard due dates by negotiating with the bank. May be it's a good thing to do next time?

  • I wish I could charge somebody that much when they were a day late with money they owed me.
